Moderators’ Bio

Moderator for Panel Session 1: Dr. Kogila Balakrishnan

kogilaDr. Kogila Balakrishnan is a Principal Fellow at WMG of the University Of Warwick, United Kingdom with responsibility for industrial collaboration and knowledge transfer partnership. She also teaches and research on the subject of offsets, international collaboration and technology policy. Kogi is from the Administrative and Diplomatic Corps Malaysia and her most recent appointment was as the Under Secretary of the Defence Industry Division at the Ministry of Defence in charge of policy formulation and implementation of defence industrial development including offsets management. Kogi’s strength lies in her ability to relate and apply academic research to public and industrial sector experience in managing offsets, technology transfer and collaboration in the international environment.

Kogi read History at University of Malaya in 1992, obtained a post graduate diploma in public administration in 1995 and completed her Masters degree in Strategy and Diplomacy at the National University of Malaysia in 2000. She read Law at the University of London from 200-2003 and completed her PhD in the field of offsets and technology policy from the faculty of Military Science, Technology and Management of Cranfield University at the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom in 2007. She is currently a Visiting Fellow at the Department of Defence Management, Cranfield University, Adjunct Professor at the National Defence University, Malaysia and a fellow advisor to Asia Aerospace City’s International Advisory panel for MARA Aerospace and Technologies. Kogi has spoken at various international conferences and she has published several academic papers on defence industry and offsets. Her current interest is to pursue international collaborative opportunities and knowledge transfer partnership for WMG and at the same time develop her interest in research and teaching in areas of technology policy, offsets and international collaboration.

Moderator for Panel Session 2: Dr. Masliza Mahmod

maslizaDr. Masliza Mahmod is a Postdoctoral Clinical Research Fellow at the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, University of Oxford, where she obtained her DPhil (PhD). She is funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), Oxford Biomedical Research Centre. She is the head of a clinical trials group at the Oxford Magnetic Resonance Research Centre, John Radcliffe Hospital. Her principal interest is to promote multicentre collaboration clinical studies using cardiac magnetic resonance methods to diagnose heart diseases with the aim to improve patient care in the future. She obtained her membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) from the UK, Master’s degree in Medicine from the National University of Malaysia and primary medical degree from Otago University, New Zealand.


Moderator for Panel Session 3: Ms. Janice Shing Wei Ng

janiceMs. Janice Shing Wei Ng is the Director of Brand and Marketing in Global Biotech Revolution (GBR) and a PhD student in University of Cambridge. She holds a MSc and BSc in Medical Bioscience from Monash University, Malaysia. Her current research interest is intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) with the focus in understanding the cause of Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a motor neuron disease.

Janice joined GBR in 2012 as Sponsorship Director and took the role of Director of Brand and Marketing in 2013. GBR’s mission is to inspire and support the next generation of leaders who will ensure the sustainability and growth of biotechnology.
