Tan Sri Dr. Ahmad Tajuddin Ali is the current President of the Academy of Sciences, Malaysia. He is also the Chairman of UEM Group Berhad, the Chairman of Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia, the Joint-Chairman (Industry) of the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT), the Chairman of UPM Holdings Sdn Bhd and the Chairman of UPM Innovations Sdn Bhd. He graduated with First Class Honours in Mechanical Engineering from King’s College, University of London in 1973 and obtained his doctorate in Nuclear Engineering from Queen Mary College, University of London in 1977. He did post-doctoral work in nuclear engineering at Oregon State University (1977-1978) and at Pennsylvania State University (1978).
He was conferred the Honorary Doctor of Science Degree by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in 2000 and the Honorary Doctor of Engineering Degree by Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) in 2008. In 2009, he was conferred the Honorary Doctor of Science Degree by Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT). He is also a graduate of the Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Programme.
Currently, he is a member of the Governing Council of the International Institute of Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in Laxenburg, Austria, as well as that of the Global Science and Innovation Advisory Council (GSIAC), the National Aerospace Council, the National Science and Research Council, the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) and the International Advisory Council of Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN).
He is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Yayasan UEM and a member of the Board of Trustees of Yayasan Khazanah, Mahathir Science Award Foundation and as an Ordinary Member of Sultan Mizan Antarctica Research Foundation. He is also a member of the Board of Governors of the Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK), his alma mater.
